{"id":12230,"date":"2024-09-12T20:02:58","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T03:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mattfife.com\/?p=12230"},"modified":"2024-08-31T20:27:26","modified_gmt":"2024-09-01T03:27:26","slug":"ubisoft-neo-at-gdc-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mattfife.com\/?p=12230","title":{"rendered":"Ubisoft demoed AI NPC tech at GDC 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ubisoft showcased their prototype NPC tech called NEO at GDC 2024.  <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ubisoft.com\/en-us\/article\/5qXdxhshJBXoanFZApdG3L\/how-ubisofts-new-generative-ai-prototype-changes-the-narrative-for-npcs\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/news.ubisoft.com\/en-us\/article\/5qXdxhshJBXoanFZApdG3L\/how-ubisofts-new-generative-ai-prototype-changes-the-narrative-for-npcs\">Ubisoft&#8217;s Paris R&amp;D studio presented the NEO tech at GDC 2024.<\/a> It uses <a href=\"https:\/\/build.nvidia.com\/nvidia\/audio2face\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/build.nvidia.com\/nvidia\/audio2face\">Nvidia\u2019s Audio2Face<\/a> application and <a href=\"https:\/\/inworld.ai\/blog\/gpt-4-alternatives-choosing-the-right-large-language-model-for-your-use-case-and-budget\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inworld.ai\/blog\/gpt-4-alternatives-choosing-the-right-large-language-model-for-your-use-case-and-budget\">Inworld\u2019s Large Language Model (LLM)<\/a> to create the character animations and interactive dialog in realtime. Simply talk to the bot (yes, it uses voice recognition) and the character responds with AI generated responses, movement, and voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AIandGames went and played with the technology. I was pretty impressed. The NPC gave surprisingly good responses to some strange dialog and stayed on track despite attempts to trip it up and get it off topic.
