A few minutes later, as Mr. Hoda\u2019s train was pulling into the station, the young man, who was a junior at Harvard University named AnhPhu Nguyen, approached him again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDo you happen to be the person working on minority stuff for Muslims in India?\u201d Mr. Nguyen asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Hoda was shocked. He worked in biotechnology, but had previously been a journalist and had written about marginalized communities in India.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>AnhPhu Nguyen and Caine\u00a0Ardayfio had created glasses that automatically identify people they look at. Nguyen and Ardayfio are both 21 and studying engineering at Harvard. They said in an interview that their system relied on already widely available technologies, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meta glasses, which livestream video to Instagram.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Face detection software, which captures faces that appear on the livestream.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/26\/technology\/pimeyes-facial-recognition-search.html\">A face search engine<\/a>\u00a0called PimEyes, which finds sites on the internet where a person\u2019s face appears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A ChatGPT-like tool that was able to parse the results from PimEyes to suggest a person\u2019s name and occupation, as well as look up the name on a people search site to find a home address, a phone number and relatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll the tools were there,\u201d Mr. Nguyen said. \u201cWe just had the idea to combine them together.\u201d Nguyen posted a video of it working. Watching it is creepy to say the least.
