Some VNC functionality was broken in Ubuntu 14.04 due to Vino, but fortunately, it’s fixable<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Using a combination of clues from http:\/\/discourse.ubuntu.com\/t\/remote-desktop-sharing-in-ubuntu-14-04\/1640<\/a> (which is all about VNC access) and https:\/\/bugs.launchpad.net\/ubuntu\/+source\/vino\/+bug\/1281250<\/a> (which discusses the bug introduced into Vino) I have managed to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n

Essentially you have to disable encryption on remote desktop access in Gnome due to a bug that has come to surface in Vino. However, some threads tell you to uncheck it in the wrong place. Follow these guidelines and you should be able to resolve it quickly.<\/p>\n

Specifically it’s<\/p>\n

dconf<\/code> > org > gnome > desktop > remote-access > require-encryption – uncheck<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and NOT<\/strong><\/h1>\n

dconf<\/code> > desktop > gnome > remote-access > enabled – uncheck<\/strong><\/em><\/s><\/p>\n

Here is how you do it:<\/p>\n

  1. First make sure Desktop Sharing<\/code> is set up properly<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  2. Download dconf-tools<\/code> by typing in Terminal sudo apt-get install dconf-tools<\/code><\/li>\n
  3. Run dconf-Editor<\/code><\/li>\n
  4. Expand org<\/code><\/li>\n
  5. Expand gnome<\/code><\/li>\n
  6. Expand Desktop<\/code><\/li>\n
  7. Select Remote Access<\/code><\/li>\n
  8. Uncheck Require Encryption<\/code> (don’t click on Set to Default as it rechecks it)<\/li>\n
  9. Exit dconf-Editor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It should now work. Tested through a reboot and all good.<\/p>\n
