{"id":332,"date":"2009-10-01T20:00:58","date_gmt":"2009-10-02T03:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mattfife.net\/wordpress\/?p=332"},"modified":"2013-04-29T10:30:38","modified_gmt":"2013-04-29T17:30:38","slug":"turnaround-slowdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mattfife.com\/?p=332","title":{"rendered":"Turnaround slowdown?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today numbers show that the recovery is &#8216;softer&#8217; than thought.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not surprising why.\u00a0 In fact, I predict it will &#8216;soften&#8217; yet again in two months.\u00a0 Why do I predict so?<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Cash for clunkers ends &#8211; and the &#8216;recovery&#8217; for automakers ends.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shock and awe &#8211; when the cash for clunkers program ended &#8211; all of a sudden people stopped buying cars and that auto &#8216;recovery&#8217; seems to have stopped.\u00a0 Well DUH!\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t really a recovery ANYWAY.\u00a0 it was an artificial recovery.\u00a0 Yet people seem surprised that folks stopped buying new cars after it ended and are punishing their stocks.\u00a0 Who honestly didn&#8217;t see that&#8217;s what would happen.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>6 out of 10 top selling cash for clunkers cars were not American<\/strong> &#8211; so your tax dollars just helped foreign automakers as opposed to domestic stimulus.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/galleries\/2009\/autos\/0908\/gallery.clunker_top_10\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">the list<\/a> of top 10 cars sold through the program:<br \/>\nFord Focus, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Toyota Prius,\u00a0 Toyota Camry, Ford Escape, Hyundai Elantra, Dodge Caliber, Honda Fit, Chevy Cobalt<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Housing is in a &#8216;soft&#8217; recovery right now<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my prediction portion.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2009\/10\/01\/real_estate\/August_sales_contracts\/index.htm?postversion=2009100110\" target=\"_blank\"> Yes, home sales have had nicely improving numbers for the last several months of\u00a0 sales<\/a>.\u00a0 But that will stop Dec 1, 2009 when the cut-off for the $8000 first-time buyer program ends. Then, probably just like the cash for clunkers &#8211; we&#8217;ll see slowing sales again and that &#8216;recovery&#8217; will go soft &#8211; and will probably &#8216;shock&#8217; experts just like the slowing auto &#8216;recovery&#8217; did.\u00a0 With unemployment continuing to rise, and along with that the number of forclosures continuing to rise, it&#8217;s foolish to think the rising house sales trend will continue.\u00a0 Oh, it won&#8217;t crash, but don&#8217;t expect a roaring recovery when there aren&#8217;t new jobs so people can pay those mortgages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today numbers show that the recovery is &#8216;softer&#8217; than thought.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not surprising why.\u00a0 In fact, I predict it will &#8216;soften&#8217; yet again in two months.\u00a0 Why do I predict so? 1.
