Or how about reading\/writing floppies for Apple II, Amiga, ST, or a host of other systems? Or maybe even hooking up a 8&#8243; floppy? It is possible! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mattfife.com\/?p=3793\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mattfife.com\/?p=3793\" target=\"_blank\">There are solutions out there<\/a>, but they can easily run $100 or more. I, however, picked up the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/decromancer.ca\/greaseweazle\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/decromancer.ca\/greaseweazle\/\" target=\"_blank\">GreaseWeazle<\/a> and read some of my old 5.25&#8243; disks. Best yet, it only cost $31 Canadian and is one of the more capable solutions. You can supposedly even use your old DOS floppy drive to read\/write images for other platforms. <br>If you&#8217;re interested in seeing it at work on some unusual formats, this <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/muckypaws.com\/2020\/09\/03\/greaseweazle\/\" target=\"_blank\">fellow gives a walkthrough<\/a> of using Greaseweazle to read 3\u2033 Amstrad disks. Plug in 3.5&#8243;, 5.25&#8243; and 8&#8243; drives and read\/write the flux data for hordes of different formats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Floppy drive &#8211; any 5.25&#8243;, 3.5&#8243; or 8&#8243; floppy that uses the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Floppy_disk_drive_interface\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Floppy_disk_drive_interface\" target=\"_blank\">Shugart interface<\/a>. This is almost all old PC drives. Even better, GreaseWeazle can use these older DOS drives to read and write Apple, Amiga, ST, and a host of other formats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Floppy disk cable &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cablesonline.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.cablesonline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CablesOnline<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/390551711664\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/390551711664\">ebay store<\/a>) has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cablesonline.com\/36unflopdriv.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.cablesonline.com\/36unflopdriv.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">universal floppy cable Item # FF-002<\/a> for $9.99\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/iec.net\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/iec.net\/\">IEC.net<\/a> also has a <a href=\"https:\/\/iec.net\/?s=floppy&amp;post_type=product\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/iec.net\/?s=floppy&amp;post_type=product\">selection of floppy cables<\/a>, and can custom-make floppy cables for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Power supply with Molex connectors for the floppy drive. Instead, you have to load and write whole images to the drive in one go. This means you need to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IMG_(file_format)\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IMG_(file_format)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">work with floppy disk images<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set up your physical floppy drive to be used with GreaseWeazle.\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attach the power cable to a power supply<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attach the data cable to the floppy drive and the GreaseWeazle<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the instructions on GreaseWeazle <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/keirf\/greaseweazle\/wiki\/V4-setup\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/github.com\/keirf\/greaseweazle\/wiki\/V4-setup\" target=\"_blank\">setup <\/a>and software setup guide. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plug in the GreaseWeazle to your computer&#8217;s USB port<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install and run GreaseWeazle GUI to format a disk, read a disk image, write a disk image, etc. Again, this only works on whole disk images.
