Foxconn appears to be moving to India
There’s clear signs that Foxconn is moving iPhone production out of China to India. If true, this could be a huge blow to China.

Two more options for reading the Oregonian for free.
Just like the New York Times, you can access the Oregonian for free via your Multnomah County Library account by using this link:
https://multcolib.org/resource/oregonian-1987-present
If you are given an Oregonian link like this:
https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2025/01/portland-teacher-fired-for-insubordination-receives-295000-settlement-from-district.html
You may only get an abbreviated version of the article and be asked to log in. If you want to read the whole thing, add ‘?outputType=amp’ at the end of the url like this:
https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2025/01/portland-teacher-fired-for-insubordination-receives-295000-settlement-from-district.html?outputType=amp
And you should see the whole article.
EVERYONE is susceptible at the right place and the right time. Other people would say I would never fall for that – but everyone is susceptible to falling for a lie. The right lie, the right time, and the right trusted person.
If you think you are immune, you are the most susceptible. The only way to protect yourself is education about the red flags.
If you know someone in a cult, don’t accuse them of being in a cult. Provide them a lifeline they can call when they start having doubts. Ask them to explain what they’re doing so they can start hearing what they’re doing is crazy.
Actress Sarah Edmondson was introduced to Nxivm as an executive success program – that turns out to be a blackmail sexual domination pyramid scheme that duped thousands of famous and extremely intelligent people. It was run by a man who was idolized – but in reality was using the program to fund his lifestyle and create a domination sex pipeline to feed his appetites. It became an HBO’s documentary on Nxivm, “The Vow,” that has lead many people to realize they were in similar organizations.
They used lots of classic cult methods – but in a unique way. They didn’t target people who you would think as vulnerable. They weren’t a religious cult – they sold people on the idea of being successful and reaching their goals. They targeted successful, intelligent, rich people, actors, and government heads. And it worked.
These methods are used by all kinds of cults. While many associate cults with religious cults – the reality is that these methods are increasingly being used in self-help programs, pyramid scheme marketing programs, startup culture, and social media.
Red flags:
Update Feb 2, 2025: Many of these same methods were being used on a local Vancouver woman – until a teller helped snap her out of just about giving $50,000 to a skin care/spa swindler.
Likely inspired by the many people on X who have for the past few days used ChatGPT to render famous photos and memes in the style of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli films, PJ Ace said he spent $250 in Kling credits and in 9 hours had re-created the Fellowship of the Rings trailer.
AI is dramatically changing the creative landscape.
Traditional phone and reservation services are ripe for being replaced by AI bots. We each could soon should have a small army of bots that do all kinds of menial tasks for us. In fact, some are even predicting that AI agents may soon surpass people as primary application users. Who wouldn’t like to tell their phone to find them the cheapest flight to Cancun in 2 weeks and have it do all the searching?
To speed up the increasing bot-to-bot interaction and reduce delay and compute required to translate to and from speech, why not let the bots use a faster, less error-prone communication method?

Like Wacom at the end of 2024, Adobe plans to close its downtown Portland office in August 2025. 56 Portland employees can continue working remotely, but 47 must move to either Washington or California, and another two will be laid off.
Yet another string of companies moving out of Portland and leaving it with the highest commercial vacancy rate of any major US city.

A great video for April Fools day! Maybe you’ve seen the Orangutan card trick in which the magician Matt G seems to push a card through a piece of glass and the primate grabs and plays with the card. It took the internet briefly by storm and had many scratching their heads.
Captain Disillusion has a whole channel on YouTube that takes apart popular trick videos and shows exactly how its done – and he recently walked through this video too.
In his videos, he walks through not only how it’s done, but how you can go about figuring it out. I especially like this teaching component so you’re not fooled by the latest TikTok or viral video. As the internet becomes more and more AI generated and bot ridden, learning just how easily you can be fooled is more important than ever. Or, as science tells us, maybe we should all be stepping away from social media if we want to be happier.
Bonus points for him doing a double-pane passthrough at the end to show that even trickier versions can be done even cleaner.
Filmmaker and avid cyclist Quek Shio wowed the internet in 2023 when he shared his bike-building process in a smoothly edited video. Now he’s back with a new bicycle and a new video. Watch him conjure, duplicate, and put together parts out of thin air.
Finally – a phone case that is really interesting!
