Infinity Mirrored Room –The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away, 2013 Wood, metal, mirrors, plastic, acrylic panel, rubber, LED lighting system, and acrylic balls 113 1/4 x 163 1/2 x 163 1/2 in. (287.7 x 415.3 x 415.3 cm) Collection of the artist; The Broad Art Foundation, Los Angeles

Yayoi Kusama creates unique experiences by taking a small room, covering it entirely with mirrors, then sets up small art displays in them that appear to stretch on towards infinity.

She started her work in 1965 when she produced Infinity Mirror Room—Phalli’s Field. Using mirrors, she transformed her earlier paintings and works on paper into a perceptual experience. Over the course of her career, she has produced more than twenty distinct rooms. The rooms provide an opportunity to examine the artist’s themes, such as the celebration of life and its aftermath.

Holy Thursday

Holy Thursday

Today is Holy Thursday – the start of the Holy Triduum.

The Easter Triduum lasts from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery. The liturgy that starts Thursday goes for 3 days as one continual motion. In the holy land, Christians will often walk and go to the places where Christ himself went during the next 72 hours and re-enact the events that occurred there. The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.

Tonight we celebrate the first mass which feeds us and the washing of feet that instituted our Christian ministry to serve the least of all.

Let us not betray our calling to be the salt of the earth – even if it costs us our lives. In the west, this might not mean our physical lives – but the comfortable trappings we use to isolate ourselves from those in need.

Then we too will celebrate the resurrection with joy – a brother of Christ who gave up everything for love of us.

Amazing Ford car crib

Amazing Ford car crib

Putting the baby in a car and going for a drive has long been known to put even the most restless child to sleep. So, Ford made a crib that you connect to a smartphone app and can then record/playback journeys you take. It reproduces sounds, passing lights, and the very motion of the journey.  So now, your child can take your commute home each day with you.

Bonus points for the Castilian Spanish.

No country for Old Men

No country for Old Men

Sailing to Byzantium
W. B. Yeats, 1865 – 1939

That is no country for old men. The young
In one another’s arms, birds in the trees
—Those dying generations—at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl, commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unageing intellect.

An aged man is but a paltry thing,
A tattered coat upon a stick, unless
Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing
For every tatter in its mortal dress,
Nor is there singing school but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence;
And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.

O sages standing in God’s holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.

Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.
Syrian Lingerie

Syrian Lingerie

I’m on vacation and decided to spent some time catching up on my travel magazines. I saw an interesting piece on traveling in Syria – and learned something new – “The most outrageous and exuberant lingerie in the world comes from a place you’d probably never expect: Syria”. And when they say outrageous, they really mean it.

Since it’s slightly not safe for work, I’ll include a link to an Amazon book on it. Or Google ‘Syrian Lingerie’ which has some page samples when you’re in an appropriate location.
