Yayoi Kusama creates unique experiences by taking a small room, covering it entirely with mirrors, then sets up small art displays in them that appear to stretch on towards infinity.

She started her work in 1965 when she produced Infinity Mirror Room—Phalli’s Field. Using mirrors, she transformed her earlier paintings and works on paper into a perceptual experience. Over the course of her career, she has produced more than twenty distinct rooms. The rooms provide an opportunity to examine the artist’s themes, such as the celebration of life and its aftermath.
